Introduction to Cooperative AI

About the Course

The Cooperative AI Foundation runs a facilitated 8-week online ‘Introduction to Cooperative AI’ course based on our curriculum (see below). It aims to deepen your understanding of the field and help you feel more prepared to start or join an ongoing project in cooperative AI. Each week, you’ll be assigned a set of curated content and exercises to go through. You’ll then join a facilitated discussion session with a group of other participants.

You'll gain access to experienced researchers in the field and a dedicated course group chat where you can ask questions, receive extensive feedback on your ideas, and expand your professional network. If this is something you'd like to participate in, you can apply for an upcoming course or express interest in future rounds. Expressions of interest really help us gauge excitement for this course and make it more likely that we’ll keep running it.

Like the curriculum (see below), we expect little prerequisite knowledge for the course and hope people from multiple different backgrounds and career stages can find value in it. As long as you have interest and a bit of experience in a subfield of beneficial AI, and are comfortable reading academic publications, the course should be accessible.

About the Curriculum

The Cooperative AI Foundation has created a new ‘Introduction to Cooperative AI’ curriculum designed to provide you with foundational knowledge of cooperative AI and build your confidence to work in the field.

The curriculum is made up of 8 sections, each consisting of a written piece that links together external resources and exercises. We expect each section to require roughly 3-4 hours of engagement, but there is plenty of optional content to engage with too! You can go through the curriculum in your own time or join one of our courses (see above).

We expect very little prerequisite knowledge to engage with the curriculum and hope people from multiple different backgrounds can find value in it. As long as you have an interest and a bit of experience in a subfield of beneficial AI, and are comfortable reading academic publications, the curriculum should be accessible. The curriculum aims to clearly signpost the prerequisite knowledge that is required to fully engage with each piece of content it references, and include links to relevant material as needed.
